The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) opened in November 1988. Since then, Hong Kong's trade exhibition industry has flourished, establishing its position as the center of trade activities in Asia and becoming a crucial venue for international conferences.

The Convention and Exhibition Center is located on the picturesque and renowned Victoria Harbour. The ownership of the Convention and Exhibition Centre is jointly owned by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Hong Kong government. The government has entrusted the Hong Kong Trade Development Council with the development, design, and management of the Convention and Exhibition Centre. The Hong Kong Trade Development Council has signed a management and operation agreement for the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (Management) Limited (referred to as the "Exhibition Management Company"). The exhibition management company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of New Creation Group Co., Ltd. (stock code: 0659).

Since the opening of the exhibition center, the utilization rate has been continuously increasing; The expansion project was also completed in June 1997, with the total area of the main site more than doubling compared to before. The expanded convention and exhibition center has further pushed Hong Kong's position as the center of Asian trade activities into the 21st century.

The expansion project cost a total of HKD 4.8 billion (USD 620 million, 1997 currency value), of which the reclamation project began in June 1994. The construction cost of the Convention and Exhibition Center when it opened in 1988 was HKD 1.6 billion (USD 207 million in 1986 currency), which does not include land prices.

Exhibition Hall Scale
  The current total area of the Convention and Exhibition Center is 248000 square meters (2.67 million square feet), of which over 70000 square meters (753474 square feet) are available for rent. In response to the requirements of existing and new customers for exhibition venues, the second phase of the expansion project of the exhibition center began construction in July 2006. The project will be completed in 2009, which will add 19400 square meters of exhibition space to the convention and exhibition center, increasing the exhibition space to 83000 square meters. The total area that the center can rent will be close to 90000 square meters.
